Have you ever been on vacation taking hot Instagram pics and thought your skin was super dewy like it was glowing from the inside? The look of your skin has a lot to do with your overall health and is also related to your stress levels and emotional state.
This is why the majority of us don’t naturally have glowy skin. But don’t worry, it’s possible to achieve this look with some tips and of course with the right skincare routine for glowing skin.
Scroll down to learn everything you need to know to get the glowy, radiant skin of your dreams.
Tips for glowy skin
1. Be consistent
If you take just one tip from this list let it be this. Like anything in life, if you are not consistent you won’t see any results, this is so important I can not stress it enough.
Also, you should consider that we completely shed our skin in 2-4 weeks, this means you should be consistent for at least 28-30 days to see actual results and not just improvements.
2. Follow a healthy diet
“We are what we eat” I know, boring, but it’s actually true. An overall healthy diet with fresh and healthy food will make wonders for your skin, hair, and nails.
Plus there are some foods that will help you maximize the glass skin effect, here are some examples:
- Vegetables: tomatoes, broccoli, greens in general
- Fish
- Fruit: berries, avocados (yes, technically it is a fruit I didn’t know either 😂), oranges, and lemons
- Dry fruit: walnuts
- Sweet potatoes
3. Always be devoted to your SPF
Prolonged exposure to the sun can result in dull skin, fine lines, wrinkles, and dry patches. Of course, we don’t want any of that so wear your sunscreen every day, irrespective of the season.
4. Know your skin type
Knowing your skin type can be helpful to target specific skin issues you may have so that you can upgrade the look of your skin overall.
Essentially, if you don’t have other issues to target getting your skin to glow will be easier and, sometimes, quicker. Also knowing about your skin type will help you choose the best glowy skin products for you.
5. Pay attention to ingredients
There are a few ingredients you can look for in your products that will significantly boost the radiance of your skin. Here are the most effective ones:
- Vitamin C brightens, tightens, and makes your skin firmer
- Alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) exfoliate, renew and refine your skin
- Retinol renews and firms your skin, plus it helps with acne and wrinkles
- Fatty acids repair, restore, and moisturize
- Antioxidants to restore and protect

Step-by-step routine for glowing skin
Glowy skin is given by having a smooth texture that is able to reflect light on your skin, hence the radiant look.
Before getting into the actual steps remember to always remove your make-up, double cleansing is actually a perfect way to promote healthy and glowy skin.
Morning brightening skincare routine
1. Cleanse
You need to cleanse twice a day: in the morning when you wake up and in the evening before going to bed. This will ensure that your skin is clean and prepped to properly absorb all the products you will apply next.
Here are my top two affordable cleansers
CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser
If you have dry skin this is the way to go. I cannot tell you how smooth and plump my skin feels with this cleanser.
I have combination skin but during winter my skin is really dry, to the point where using a normal cleanser will make my skin itchy and extremely tight. Just by using this cleanser, my skin feels clean but super hydrated.
Also, I can tell that is doing a good job of cleansing because I have absolutely no more makeup on after using this product.
CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser
If you have oily skin I would use this product instead.
I prefer to use this one during summer when my skin is less dry.
Since I have acne-prone skin I really liked this product because it deeply cleanses my face making sure I get fewer pimples as possible. At the same time though, it does not completely strip my skin of its moisture.
2. Brightening serum
For this purpose, you can choose your favorite brightening serum. If you don’t have one or don’t know what to look for I suggest one with vitamin C or niacinamide.
If you would like to use them both you could apply them in the morning or in alternative, one after you wake up and one before going to bed. In this case, I suggest you use the vitamin C serum in the morning since is going to boost the effectiveness of your SPF.
Here are the products with these active ingredients that I’m currently using
I tried products that I liked way better but honestly, I’m on a budget and with these two I’m still able to get great results at a fair price.
If you have money to spend on skincare though I LOVED Paula’s Choice RESIST Super Antioxidant Serum. My skin was so radiant and plump that it felt amazing! I highly recommend it.
Also, I have an entire article about the best affordable vitamin C serum if you want to check it out, these are my tried and true products!
There are a few things you need to know before purchasing a vitamin C product. For example, you need the right packaging if you want it to be effective and you need to choose the right derivative for you. I explain all about it in another article on which vitamin C derivative is best for you.
3. Apply sunscreen
Before this step, especially if you have very dry skin, you could first apply a layer of your favorite moisturizer. Personally, I find that applying my SPF as my morning moisturizer makes my skin very happy.
Nightime brightening skincare routine
1. Cleanse
2. Exfoliate
The top layer of our skin, the stratus corneum, is made of dead cells. We shed some of them every day. Since they are “dead” they can lead to dull-looking skin, which is the opposite of what we are trying to achieve.
To speed up the shedding process we can turn to exfoliation. Once a week you should use an exfoliating product to get rid of excess skin and resurface beautiful glowy skin underneath.
3. Address your personal skin concerns
This is the time to use a product of your choice to address any skin issue you may have. For example, if you have dry skin you could apply a hyaluronic acid serum.
This is also the time when you can apply your favorite face mask. In the next section, I recommend you one of the best masks to achieve radiant skin but you can actually use more than one mask per time.
For what concerns the frequency with which you use your mask you should try once a week.
4. Moisturize
This is pretty self-explanatory. Just lather your moisturizer on your face to keep your skin plump and hydrated. Don’t forget your neck and décolleté, they need some love too.
As you can see this is a fairly simple routine, but you really don’t need a lot to take care of your skin properly. Actually, if you overdo it you could cause more harm than good.
By the way, for those of you with dry skin I have an article where I talk about the best moisturizers for dry skin, check it out if you’re interested.
