Winter capsule wardrobe | How to build the perfect one

Do you always feel like you have nothing to wear? Here are the secret to a flawless winter capsule wardrobe to make your winter cozy but elegant and stylish at the same time.

Wanting to be stylish, warm, comfortable and at the same time not going mad to find the perfect outfit every time can be a challenge. This is why a winter capsule wardrobe is crucial to avoid stress (weird but true ahah) and feel your best and most confident self every day.

For me having a great outfit on is not just for show. I find that having a closet that supports my personality helps me go confidently about my day and also skyrockets my productivity.

After building your winter capsule wardrobe you will be able to merge comfort and style with every single outfit.

This post is all about how to design a functional capsule wardrobe.

Tops

First things first we need to talk about long sleeve T-shirts. I recommend you choose a more fitted option as it will give you more freedom to play with blazers and cardigans for example. These are going to be the base of your outfits:

• Black round neck long sleeve T-shirt
• Black V-neck long sleeve T-shirt
• White round neck long sleeve T-shirt
• White V-neck long sleeve T-shirt

In winter we cannot forget turtle necks. Again, for these, I suggest you purchase a more fitted option. You are going to need:

• Black turtle neck
• White turtle neck

Now, for the days we want to feel cozy and warm we are going to need chunky sweaters (I know we all love them ahah). This is important so that we are able to have both fitted and more loose garments in order to style balanced outfits.

• Black chunky sweater
• White chunky sweater

Of course, we must include shirts. I recommend you choose two white options: one more fitted and one a little bit looser. Again this is important for you to create balanced and put-together outfits.

• Black shirt
• White shirt

Aurora’s tips

When I say white I don’t necessarily mean a clear white, if it suits you better you can always go for a cream or maybe an off-white.

Bottoms

In this section, I’m including jeans but obviously if you don’t like wearing them feel free to skip this step.

• Black jeans
• Regular dark blue jeans
• Regular light blue jeans

Of course, to be elegant and polished we must include trousers. These look incredible both in work outfits and when you go out. They are really comfortable when you are out and about in your daily life, essentially they are very versatile. For this you can choose if you want them more fitted or more on the looser end, I suggest you buy both maybe in different colors.

• Black trousers
• White trousers
• Grey trousers (if you don’t like gray you can go for a maroon for example)

Now for the feminine part, we have skirts. Since we are talking winter capsule wardrobe consider buying skirts with thick materials for example a beautiful velvet skirt so that it will keep you warm.

• Black pencil skirt (you can choose any length you prefer)
• Black mini skirt
• White mini skirt

Let’s talk about a little bit of a controversial garment: leggings. I feel like in order to look elegant and chic you should be aware of how you wear it. For example, paired with a short top is not going to be classy at all but if you throw a blazer on top that covers your behind is already more ladylike. For these I would avoid colors except for burgundy maybe, they don’t look very classy.

• Regular black leggings (make sure they are not see-through!)
• Black leather leggings (if you don’t like them that’s fine but I suggest you try them, with the right outfit they may surprise you)

Aurora’s tips

Pay attention to how the clothes you choose fit you, this will make all the difference in the world. Also make sure to buy the right materials for the season.

Dresses

With dresses, you can have a little bit more fun and add more of your personality. I’m going to make some suggestions but on this feel free to play with materials, length, and fit.

• Black fitted dress
• Black loose dress
• White fitted dress
• White loose dress

Blazers and cardigans

For this of course you can add whatever you wear most. I recommend this two because you can use them both for work and going out. Also, they look elegant and chic. Again prefer materials that will keep you warm like cashmere and wool for the cardigans and tweed for the blazers.

• Black blazer
• White blazer
• Black cardigan
• White cardigan

Aurora’s tips

Speaking of colors you may have noticed this is a neutral palette which may or may not be your style but these are just the basics, they are key to make sure you can make the most out of your wardrobe. So, of course you can add color just make sure you choose colors that suits you (take the test on your color palette here).

Outerwear

Naturally, they are a must for the winter season. Of course, we need to be prepared for the cold but also when you go out your coat is one of the few things people are going to see of your outfit so it can make it or break it.

Coats of course are really elegant. I can’t stress it enough tough: choose a warm material otherwise, you will feel cold! I know this way it can turn up a little bit more expensive but a coat is something you are going to use for a long long time, plus the cost per wear makes it worth it. If you really don’t have the finance maybe opt for buying just a black one so you will be warm and keep your wallet happy at the same time.

• Black coat (I suggest more of a long one, below the knee for example. If you can, buy both)
• White coat (this is not necessary if you are just starting but you will be fabulous in it!)
• Color of your choice coat (I recommend a rich burgundy or a light blue, these are going to be a statement piece)

I would also add a puffer jacket especially if you live in cold weather. For this, you can choose any color you prefer but of course, black and white are going to be the easiest ones to pair.

This is totally optional but I feel like it’s warm, chic, and really feminine: the fur jacket. Of course, you can buy fake fur to save our animal friends and not break the bank. Just make sure to pick one that is soft to the touch and make sure you wash it accordingly so you don’t ruin it.

Shoes

Lastly, we have shoes. Of course, this is going to vary a lot based on your style. I’m going to give you a few suggestions as always. I also recommend buying at least one pair of heels, I know a lot of you may not like to wear them but I promise you are going to look ravishing and most importantly you are going to feel powerful.

• Black sneakers
